Gnu Diddy! asked:

And what did you get out of it?

Around 1997, I used to troll forums frequented by users of Slackware Linux, making fun of their preferred systems lack of technical features present in Debian GNU/Linux. (For those who don’t know Linux: at that time, commercial organizations tended to use Red Hat, but “geeks” were split about evenly between Debian and Slackware loyalists. Now, Slackware is a “niche” distribution and Debian is constantly growing and spawning derivatives, because it is superior…. oops, old habits.)

Anyway, it was just fun arguing with people, provoking, getting people to take themselves way too seriously. I suppose that’s why – though I can’t abide certain trolling (There’s no such thing as taking rape “too seriously”.), I can still appreciate a lot of it and don’t necessarily assume a truly malicious intent.

Anyone else ever trolled who doesn’t troll now?
Oracle, I saw a bit of that on one of your questions. The individual behind the rumors is quite unbalanced. Best to ignore them.

I installed slackware 12 on my Pc last night, but I can’t get sound to work. My sound card is a Soundblaster Audigy SE and Ubuntu detects it no problem. I absolutely can’t find a Linux driver for my soundcard, any advice? Also any links for slackware beginners would be nice, I’m having a bit of trouble with it
so uh, where do I find the source code for the audio drivers?
Thanks, I guess that’s why my soundcard wasn’t working with debian. So I might give that a try again

Hi, I recently installed Slackware Linux on one of my computers. Ironically, the biggest problem that I’ve had is shutting it down. I can’t figure out how to!(and no, I don’t have internet on it.)I’ve tried shutdown -h now, but it won’t work. And I’ve forgotten the password to root. And when I click the end session button in X, shut down is grayed out. And I’m not interested in press Ctrl-Alt-Del and then holding down the power button before Linux starts.

What do I do?!?!?
